Service Hours Opportunity

Dear Parents,
In a special way, the Sacrament of Confirmation is to graciously fill Christians with the desire to serve the Church and the world. God's many gifts to us have been given so that we might share them with our families and with our Church. The testimony of the early Church bears witness to the fact that service in stewardship for the community was a hallmark of authentic Christian life. Therefore, service by candidates for Confirmation is an important aspect of preparation and an opportunity for formation.

A popular service opportunity coming up is the Knights of Columbus Lenten Fish Fries that happen on all Fridays in Lent, except Good Friday. We need teens grades 7-12 to help with these from 4:15pm-7:15pm starting Friday, February 28th and ending April 3rd. High School students like to help with this too so it fills up fast. We can only take about 12 teens per week so it is important to sign up ahead of time by using this sign up genius

The teens will basically help keep the flow of the fish fry going. Bus tables, replace place mats, wear a red apron (provided) and be generally helpful for the 3 hours. There may be other tasks the kids will be given so having a "servant's heart" is highly recommended.

There is no need for parents to stay and help unless you would like to take this service on as a family. If not, do come and enjoy the Fish Fry! The students working can buy dinner for a discounted price, if they are interested. $4-$6.

The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring the Fish Fry's and plan to donate some of the proceeds to youth ministry. Please don't hesitate to call or email with any questions.

In Christ,
Deb True
Director of Faith Formation

Fr. Mark's School of Prayer

Click on image to pop up a full sized version of this image. In Matthew 21:13, Jesus tells us that "My house shall be a house of prayer". You and I, by virtue of our baptism into Christ are now God's house, God's dwelling place, God's temple of the Holy Spirit. In Luke 11:1, one of Jesus's disciples said, "Lord, teach us how to pray just as John taught his disciples." God created us for Himself, that we might come to know Him and the profound love that He has for each of us. As disciples of Jesus, it is absolutely essential that we be deeply grounded in Him (in Love) through a life of prayer. For without Him we can do nothing (John 15:5)!

If you would like to grow in your relationship with Jesus through a life of prayer, please join Fr. Mark every first Saturday of the month at the Lakeview chapel following the 8:15 Mass. Please bring a journal and pen.
