Knights of Columbus Coats for Kids

The Knights of Columbus strongly believe that no child should have to fight off the cold of winter without a decent coat. Knights will provide kids with brand new high quality coats free of charge that are shipped to our local council in boxes of twelve. St. Gerald Knights of Columbus Council #9518 has purchased the first two cases of 24 coats at a cost of $20 each and they are already on their way! We have reached out to administrators within St. Gerald School and Ralston Public Schools to arrange distribution through the schools. We have been assured that many, many coats will be needed... more than we can probably provide.

We need your help! Knights will be collecting cash/check donations in the back of St. Gerald Church to purchase additional coats. Your donations are tax deductible! You can also drop your donation into the collections basket using a separate envelope addressed to: Knights of Columbus Council #9518. See the attached flyer for instructions on how to mail your donation. Thank you in advance for your support of this worthy cause!

Please Welcome New Members of the Parish Staff

Kelly O'Donnell : Director of Stewardship and Development
Hello! My name is Kelly O'Donnell. I am an Omaha native and grew up in the Christ the King Parish. I moved around the Archdiocese, as my family moved around the city, but I came to St. Gerald's after 13+ years at St. Patrick's - Elkhorn.

I am the blessed mother of 3 amazing young men, ages 22, 19 and 16. My kids have played an instrumental role in my faith journey and helped deepen my desire to encounter Jesus.

I have been serving as the Youth Coordinator for St. Gerald's, since December 2017, while maintaining a position at Bank of the West. I come into the Stewardship and Development role, with 20 years of financial institution experience and a passion to carry out the Vision of our parish. I am eager to work with you and see how the Holy Spirit moves us, along this journey.

Mark Nelson: Director of Evangelization and Discipleship
Hello! My name is Mark Nelson. I am so grateful that our family is a part of St. Gerald's larger family and to have the opportunity to work with you, creating opportunities to draw nearer to the Lord. My wife, Tracy, and I are blessed to have three children, ages 8, 6, and 3. I grew up in Minnesota, married after college, worked in Youth Ministry and Men's Ministry for 9 years, then becoming a stay-at-home dad for 4.5 years. Since then, I've become more active in ministry again with a focus on Evangelization and Leadership.

Over the past 15+ years I've grown more and more passionate about how we can improve our church(es), bring people into relationship with Jesus, and listen more closely to the Holy Spirit. My work for you and for Fr. Mark will be very much orientated towards the Saint Gerald's Vision - Encountering Jesus, Making Disciples, and Transforming Lives - allowing God to transform us into an authentic community.

Charlie Hoover: Director of Alpha
Hi! I am Charlie Hoover and I was born in 1963 in Greensboro, NC. I earned a technology degree from Miami University (Ohio) and served in the US Air Force from 1985 - 1994. I worked as an IT consultant and then IT management in both Omaha, NE, and Des Moines, IA. In 2000, I joined a large bank and worked as a senior executive in technology until 2013 when I left corporate work to pursue a full-time teaching, spiritual direction, and retreat ministry.

I am a Spiritual Director and Retreat Director with experience across a number of parish and adult faith formation ministries, including Alpha, RCIA, directed retreats, Christian Experience Weekend (CEW/Cursillo) retreats, parish missions, bible studies, and presentations on variety of faith topics. I am also on the national teaching team for the Catherine of Siena Institute and travel throughout the US and Canada teaching workshops on evangelization and discipleship. I have a Certificate in Theology, Certificate in Spiritual Direction and Retreat Direction, and have completed the Christian Spirituality Program (CSP) at Creighton University.

I have two children: Allyson is a social worker in Omaha, NE, and Kenneth is a writer in Iowa City, IA. I am looking forward to serving St. Gerald parish as the Director of Alpha.

Father Mark's Homily About Our New Vision and Mission

New Vision and Mission for St. Gerald Parish

Vision:
Encountering Jesus · Making Disciples · Transforming Lives

Mission:
Led by the Holy Spirit, we are a Catholic community of faith whose primary purpose is to know Jesus, to love Him, and to serve Him in serving others. Sent to make disciples, we invite and welcome everyone to come and share our Master's joy.

We are witnessing an exciting moment in the history of our parish! On Monday, May 14, over one hundred parish staff and ministry leaders gathered the Fellowship Hall for the unveiling of our new vision and mission. During this time, Fr. Mark introduced the leadership team who helped him craft the new vision and mission statements.

The evening included prayer, praise and worship and small group discussions. Some attendees gave a short testimony on the spiritual renewal they have witnessed within our parish in recent times. Many found comfort in learning that our new vision and mission align with the Archbishop’s vision and mission for the Archdiocese of Omaha.

The parish staff and ministry leaders are excited and anxious to get started on this great undertaking Fr. Mark has developed alongside his leadership team. Stay tuned as we continue to communicate our progress towards implementing this new vision and mission into the framework of our parish and all its ministries.

If you missed the leadership summit, please view the video taken that evening:

Prayer for Family Formation

Prayer for Family Formation in Every Part of Our Parish
Dear Lord, you have always been faithful to us and have always guided our parish to know, love and serve you. You call us to be Disciples who actively share their faith with others. Strengthen the gifts of the Holy Spirit in each of us as we seek to help our families become the primary place of religious formation. We give you thanks for the fruit that has come from Family Formation. Bless all our efforts this coming year especially as we move the Family Formation model into our school and as we begin YDisciple among our youth. Encourage us as we move in this new direction and keep our hearts tuned to your will. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
